Hanwha Ocean is reported to be highly likely to take on the detailed design and lead ship construction for the Korean nextgeneration destroyer (KDDX) project.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration completed its proposal evaluation for Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries on the 11th, and Hanwha Ocean is known to have led by about 0.6 points. KDDX is a project worth about 7.8 trillion won to build six 6,000tonclass vessels using domestic technology.
In the industry, there is also discussion that the followon ship construction orders may later be divided between the two companies. This project has faced overheated competition and procedural delays, and it is analyzed that the security penalty applied to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries influenced the evaluation.
