The flood control emergency response in the Pearl River Basin has been upgraded to Level III

The Pearl River Flood Control Headquarters and the Pearl River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources raised the emergency response for flood control from Level IV to Level III and the emergency response for flood defense from Level IV to Level III on June 22 to address the risks brought by the development of floods on the Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin. On that day, the flow at the Wuxuan hydrological station in the middle reaches of the main stream of the Xijiang River rose to 25,000 cubic meters per second, meeting the flood numbering standard and becoming the first numbered flood on the Xijiang River in 2026, as well as the first numbered flood of major rivers in China this year. Affected by heavy rainfall, the flood is moving downstream, with some river sections operating at high water levels and increasing pressure on levee defense. The Pearl River Commission said it has dispatched a working group to Guangxi to assist and guide flood prevention on the front line. Relevant departments also held a special consultation meeting, requiring optimization of reservoir group dispatching based on the progress of the flood, timely leveraging the floodretaining function of the Datengxia Water Conservancy Project, and focusing on preventing flood risks in rivers such as the main stream of the Xijiang River, the Longjiang River, the Duliu River, and the Liujiang River, as well as mountain floods and floods in small and mediumsized rivers, and promptly organizing the evacuation of people in dangerous areas.
