Starting from July 1, the 2026 national railway summer transport period will officially begin and last for 62 days until August 31. The China State Railway Group expects that during this period, the national railways will carry 1.01 billion passengers, with an average of about 16.29 million passengers per day.
To cope with the summer travel peak, the railway department will, in line with the capacity of new lines and new stations as well as the summer timetable arrangement, add 480 passenger trains across railway bureau group companies. The national railways plan to operate about 12,000 passenger trains per day on average, and will increase capacity on popular routes and during peak periods through measures such as coupling multiple EMU sets and adding carriages to conventionalspeed trains.
The article also noted that, based on summer tourism demand, the railway department will run themed tourist trains for family trips, study tours, red tourism, and healthandwellness travel. At the same time, it will optimize the 12306 functions, expand the scope of tourism multiride tickets, and continue to provide services such as quiet carriages, convenient transfers, and online meal ordering.
In addition to passenger transport, railway freight will also be reinforced. It will重点 transport electric coal, grain, fertilizer, and other materials, and improve the organization efficiency of ChinaEurope freight trains, trains on the new western landsea corridor, and crossborder freight trains on the ChinaLaos Railway, in order to support production demands such as peak summer electricity use and summer harvest and planting.
