On July 30, Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, responded to the socalled "joint patrol" carried out by the Philippines, the United States, and Japan in the relevant sea area, saying that no matter what actions the Philippine side takes or who it enlists to back it, its illegal scheme will not succeed.
Jiang Bin pointed out that defense and security cooperation among the relevant countries should not be directed against any third party, nor should it undermine regional peace and stability. He emphasized that Huangyan Island is China’s inherent territory, and the Philippines’ territorial scope does not include Huangyan Island; these facts will not change because of outside coordination.
Jiang Bin also said that the Chinese military will remain on high alert and resolutely counter any acts of infringement and provocation, safeguarding the country’s territorial sovereignty, maritime rights and interests, and peace and stability in the South China Sea.
