Taiwan issues sea warning for Typhoon "Bavi"

Taiwan's meteorological authority issued a sea warning for Typhoon "Bavi" on the afternoon of July 9, reminding vessels sailing and operating in the waters off northeastern and southeastern Taiwan, as well as in the Bashi Channel, to heighten vigilance. At 5 p.m. that day, the center of "Bavi" was located about 870 kilometers southeast by east of Eluanbi, Taiwan, moving northwest at a speed of 17 to 25 kilometers per hour. The meteorological authority expects a land warning to be issued early on the morning of the 10th, with the typhoon coming closest to Taiwan around noon on the 11th. Affected by the outer circulation, rainfall in the north and northeastern Yilan will intensify from the 10th, with the heaviest rain from the evening of the 10th to the 11th. The north, central Taiwan, and the mountainous areas of Yilan may see rainfall at or above torrential rain levels. Relevant departments have also issued largewave alerts for Pingtung, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung, with wave heights at sea expected to exceed 6 meters from the evening of the 9th to early morning of the 10th. In response to the typhoon, Taiwan Railways, the Alishan Forestry Railway, some airlines, and the "mini three links" routes have already made adjustments or suspended operations. Taiwan's forestry authorities have also issued a yellow alert for the barrier lakes on the Hualien and Wanli rivers and have begun evacuation work for people in downstream townships.
