The 6th International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development was held in Beijing from September 6 to 8, where nearly 700 representatives from 50 countries and 19 international organizations exchanged views on the achievements of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development over the past five years since its establishment. Several leaders of international organizations and countries said that the center has played a positive role in advancing the use of big data, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence to support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Reports show that the center was established in Beijing in 2021, built with support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and focuses on promoting sustainable development monitoring, assessment, and policy support. Over the past five years, the center has formed a scientific research system featuring coordinated development of satellites, platforms, data, talent, and an international cooperation network. It independently developed and launched the world's first scientific satellite for sustainable development, and the related data has been shared with 118 countries.
In addition, the center has also established an integrated "datacomputingservice" platform, opened multidisciplinary data to the world, and supported applications for multiple Sustainable Development Goals. The report mentioned that the center has continuously compiled and released the Report on Big Earth Data in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals, and has also continuously provided capacitybuilding training and data product support for developing countries and small island developing states.
