Over Five Years, Beijing No. 2 Intermediate Court Concluded 570 Family Cases Involving Disposition of Elderly Persons’ Property

Beijing, July 29 — The Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court stated that from 2021 to 2025, it concluded a total of 570 family law cases involving the disposition of elderly persons' property, accounting for about 4.4% of family law cases in 2021 and rising to 15.5% in 2025. The court released a relevant trial white paper on the same day, summarizing the characteristics of these cases and the judicial responses. The statement shows that such cases are mainly concentrated in disputes over testamentary succession, bequests, and bequestsupport agreements, with testamentary succession disputes being the most numerous. The points of contention largely center on issues such as the authenticity of wills, the civil capacity of elderly people when disposing of property, and the performance of agreements. The property involved is mainly real estate and deposits, reflecting that these two types of assets are at the core of family property disputes. The court said that in recent years it has continuously strengthened litigation service safeguards for elderly people, including providing fullprocess litigation support for very elderly people, setting up a green channel for agefriendly litigation, improving agefriendly facilities in courtrooms, and enhancing the standardization of case handling and the protection of elderly people's rights and interests through measures such as accompanying parties during litigation and coordinated verification between first and secondinstance trials.
