Korea's AI Industry Opportunities and Challenges Highlighted by Jensen Huang's Visit

With Nvidia's visit to Korea, the Korean AI industry has emerged as a key hub. As cooperation expands in AI infrastructure and physical AI, take a look at the opportunities and risks together.

With NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Korea from the 5th to the 9th, Korea is once again drawing attention as a key hub for the AI industry. As cooperation with Korean companies expands not only in memory semiconductors but also in fields such as AI infrastructure and physical AI, there is an assessment that opportunities across the industry have grown. During his visit, CEO Huang expanded partnerships by meeting with the heads of major groups such as SK, LG, Hyundai Motor, Naver, and Doosan. NVIDIA included SK and Naver in discussions on building AI factories, and with LG, Hyundai Motor, and Doosan it pushed ahead with cooperation related to physical AI, including robotics and autonomous driving. Plans to build an AI research center in Seoul were also mentioned. However, experts believe that if Korea becomes too deeply integrated into NVIDIAcentered ecosystems, technological dependence could intensify. There are calls for Korean companies to adopt a ‘twotrack’ strategy: leveraging cooperation while also pursuing independent technology development and ecosystem diversification.
