China releases White Paper on Global Governance explaining concepts and actions

On June 17, the State Council Information Office of China released the white paper "Building a Fairer and More Reasonable Global Governance System: China's Vision, Initiatives and Actions," which systematically introduces China's practice in participating in the reform and development of the global governance system and explains the relevant goals, principles, and directions for action. The white paper points out that unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise at present, and the global governance deficit is widening. Experts interviewed believe that this document will help enhance the international community's understanding of China's Global Governance Initiative and promote the formation of broader consensus in order to respond more effectively to global challenges. At the press conference, the Chinese side outlined the followup priorities for advancing the Global Governance Initiative in a deeper and more substantive way, including reinvigorating open regionalism, strengthening governance in emerging fields, enhancing the development of governance platforms, and building consensus on global governance. The white paper also reviews China's participation in UN peacekeeping, international trade, and the building of multilateral mechanisms.
