Kim Myeong-su, evidence that a proposal to withdraw troops deployed to the National Assembly during the 12·3 martial law was ignored

It has been revealed that Kim Myungsoo, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, did not accept his subordinates' recommendation to withdraw the martial law troops deployed to the National Assembly during the December 3 emergency martial law. The special counsel team is investigating whether Kim, despite hearing multiple times that it was an illegal martial law, failed to relay that to then Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun. According to the special counsel's investigation, immediately after the declaration of martial law, Kim reportedly responded to the Joint Chiefs legal affairs chief's objection to the martial law requirements by saying, "There may be circumstances we do not know about." It was also found that he defused the situation by responding in a similar manner to protests that the deployment to the National Assembly was illegal. The special counsel is also examining whether Kim was involved in the formation of the martial law command structure and the dispatch of Joint Chiefs staff officers. However, the court rejected the arrest warrant, finding there was room for dispute over the charges, and the special counsel is reportedly considering a plan to file charges without detention after strengthening the legal arguments.
