AI hacking attacks spreading, personal information leaks and intrusion attempts confirmed in the financial sector Cyber threats have spread beyond banks to savings banks and capital companies, prompting a review of response measures

It has been confirmed that hacking attacks using artificial intelligence (AI) have spread beyond the five major banks to savings banks, capital firms, and mutual finance institutions. The financial authorities are also examining the possibility that the incidents were committed by the same person, noting that similar approaches have continued to be made against multiple financial companies. According to the financial authorities and others, personal information leaks have occurred or been confirmed at Yegaram Savings Bank, Hyundai Capital, and Welcome Savings Bank, among others. At Saemaul Geumgo and Nonghyup mutual finance, attempts to access through internet protocol (IP) addresses similar to those used in previous attacks on the banking sector were also detected. Previously, hacking attempts were reported one after another at major banks such as KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, Woori, and NH Nonghyup, as well as at BNK Busan Bank. The financial authorities urgently convened officials from the entire financial sector to review the status of damage and the security response system, and are also considering measures requiring immediate reporting upon recognition of an incident.
