Chongqing’s green tax and fee reductions over the past three years exceeded 19.1 billion yuan

On June 5, the Chongqing Municipal Tax Service announced that over the past three years, Chongqing has implemented relevant tax and fee support policies around promoting green development, with cumulative tax and fee cuts exceeding 19.1 billion yuan. That day also marked the 55th World Environment Day, and Chongqing is also advancing the building of a pilot zone for a Beautiful China provincial region, with the green transition continuing to accelerate. The report noted that a cement company in Zhong County has invested a total of 500 million yuan in environmental upgrades. Through flue gas treatment, dust removal equipment upgrades, and energyefficiency improvements to its production lines, it has reduced carbon emissions and energy consumption, and achieved coal and electricity savings as well as emission reductions in 2025. This could save the company more than 100 million yuan in production costs each year. Data from the Chongqing Municipal Tax Service showed that in the first quarter of this year, environmental tax revenue corresponding to sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides fell by 44% and 33%, respectively, compared with the same period in 2024, reflecting how the green tax system is pushing enterprises to shift from passive pollution control to proactive emission reduction. At the same time, Chongqing has also established tax collection and administration coordination mechanisms with 17 municipal departments including ecological environment and water resources, and has promoted the unification of some vehicle and vessel tax standards and tax collection and administration services in Sichuan and Chongqing, fostering coordinated regional green and lowcarbon development.
