On the afternoon of May 4, an explosion occurred in a workshop of Hunan Changsha Liuyang Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co., Ltd. Local authorities reported on the 5th that as of 8 a.m. that day, the accident had caused 21 deaths and 61 injuries, and the injured had been sent to the hospital for treatment. Reporters at the scene saw that traffic control had been implemented in the accident area, and rescue forces such as police cars and fire trucks were continuously rushing to the scene. In the early hours of the morning, open flames in the core area had still not been fully extinguished, with heavy smoke, and some buildings were visibly damaged. The fire department used highreach fire trucks and fire reconnaissance robots to take part in the response. The shockwave from the accident affected residential houses within a radius of about 500 meters, shattering glass in some doors and windows. Nearby villagers said that when the explosion occurred, they heard a loud noise and the houses shook noticeably. Some residents suffered minor injuries and have received treatment. Relevant departments have organized medical treatment for the injured, onsite response, and resettlement of nearby residents, and a working group from the Ministry of Emergency Management has also rushed to the scene to provide guidance.
