Typhoon “Hongxia” Approaches, National Flood Control Headquarters Continues to Deploy Preventive and Response Measures
Latest warning for Typhoon Hongxia: heavy rainfall is hitting many areas, and flood control and typhoon response measures have been全面 upgraded Pay attention to the landfall path and evacuation and shelter arrangements, and make timely preparations for travel and disaster prevention
The Office of the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters continued on July 25 to organize joint consultations with multiple departments and nine key provinces to assess the development trends of Typhoon No. 12 this year, “Longxia,” and the heavy rainfall, and to deploy flood control and typhoon prevention work. The meeting was chaired by Chen Min, Director of the Office of the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, Vice Minister of Emergency Management, and Vice Minister of Water Resources.
The consultation pointed out that Typhoon “Longxia” is expected to make landfall along the coast from Hong Kong to Huilai, Guangdong, between the night of the 25th and the morning of the 26th. Under its influence, gusts of force 12 to 13 may occur in the northeastern South China Sea, the eastern coastal areas of Guangdong, and the Pearl River Estuary. Some areas in Guangdong, Hunan, and Jiangxi will see relatively heavy rainfall, with extremely intense rainfall in some localized areas. Heilongjiang, Shandong, Henan, and other places have also recently experienced continuous rainfall and strong convective weather.
The Office of the National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters requires all localities to further inspect and eliminate hidden risks, focusing on evacuating people from danger zones and ensuring they move to safety, especially in highrisk areas such as mountain torrent gullies, narrow flood channels, old residential compounds, elderly care institutions, and tourist attractions; at the same time, preposition rescue and relief forces and equipment such as communications and machinery, strengthen precautions against mountain floods, geological disasters, flooding in small and mediumsized rivers, urban waterlogging, and reservoir safety, and ensure that warning responses and personnel evacuations are implemented effectively.
