Michelle, Kaushik, and Moon Chung-in Emphasize Proactive Response Amid a Changing International Order
Responding to a Shifting International Order, Reducing Dependence on the U.S. and Seeking Multilateral Cooperation Solutions Key Takeaways from the 2026 Kyunghyang Forum, Including Tensions in Taiwan and the Future Value of South Korea
Charles Michel, former President of the European Council; Bilahari Kausikan, former Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Moon Chungin, honorary distinguished professor at Yonsei University, discussed response measures to a shifting international order at a roundtable held for the 2026 Kyunghyang Forum at Lotte Hotel in Junggu, Seoul, on the 17th.
They assessed that the existing liberal order has weakened in the wake of the war in Ukraine and the turmoil in the Middle East, and said that countries should judge their own interests and security for themselves rather than relying only on the United States, while seeking multilateral cooperation.
They also said a cautious approach is needed regarding tensions surrounding the Taiwan issue, and named trust, courage, and truth as the core values of Korean society over the next 10 years.
