Jang Ye-chan cleared of allegations of spreading false information related to Han Dong-hoon

Former Deputy Director Jang Yechan of the Yeouido Research Institute has been cleared of charges in a case in which he was accused of spreading false information related to Rep. Han Donghoon. The Seoul Western Police Station decided on the 13th not to forward the case, saying that the charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection did not constitute a crime, and that the charges of violating the Public Official Election Act lacked sufficient evidence. In March, the former deputy director raised related suspicions by posting a screenshot on social media of what was presumed to be a post uploaded by someone with the same name as the lawmaker. The police determined that his remarks were political commentary based on the results of the People Power Party's inspection of party affairs, and that it was also difficult to recognize an intent to defame.
