Chen Bangxun, DirectorGeneral of the Department of Development Planning of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said at a press conference of the State Council Information Office on the 24th that by the end of the second quarter of this year, the number of breeding sows nationwide had been adjusted down to 37.8 million, a decrease of 1.81 million from the end of 2025. The pace of hog slaughter has slowed, and the market supplydemand situation continues to improve. However, he also pointed out that hog supply is still relatively ample at present, and the overall pattern of strong supply and weak demand has not fundamentally changed. Chen Bangxun said that the next step will be to continue advancing comprehensive regulation and control of hog production capacity, issue early warning information intensively, guide producers to arrange production reasonably according to changes in supply and demand, keep prices as stable as possible, and avoid major market fluctuations. In response to the recent floods in South China, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has sent an expert team to guide local authorities in properly carrying out harmless disposal of dead hogs and disinfection of the breeding environment. At present, the relevant work has been basically completed. No major animal epidemics have been reported, and there has been no significant impact on national hog production.
