More than 90 years ago, the Red Army’s Long March passed through Yunnan, leaving behind important revolutionary red imprints in the Wumeng Mountains, along the Jinsha River, and on the snowy plateau of northwest Yunnan. This Xinhua News Agency report reviews historical episodes of the Long March in Yunnan, as well as the protection and inheritance of these sites and relics today.
The report mentions that in February 1935, the CPC Central Committee held the Zaxi Conference in Weixin County; in 1936, after entering Diqing, the Red Second and Red Sixth Armies held the “Zhongdian Conference,” reflecting the Red Army’s style of strict discipline and close ties with the masses.
Today, the Long March sites and relics in the area from the Wumeng Mountains to the Jinsha River are being continuously protected, and related stories are being told from generation to generation, becoming an important carrier of revolutionary education and historical memory.
