China's Space Station Launches a Second Expansion and Upgrade

The Chinese space station has begun a new round of expansion and upgrading, with plans to gradually evolve from the current Tshaped configuration to a crossshaped configuration, and in the medium to long term further expand into a largerscale platform. The report指出 that this adjustment is intended to meet the growing needs of space science experiments, spacecraft docking, onorbit maintenance, and longterm stays by astronauts. Over the past five years, the Chinese space station has carried out 267 scientific and application projects. As the number of experiments has increased, the existing space and functions have gradually approached saturation. After expansion, the space station will add experimental areas, docking ports, and extravehicular operation passages, while also providing more ample space for life support, emergency buffering, and cargo storage. The report also mentioned that the expansion and upgrading will reserve conditions for future international cooperation and more scientific missions. According to the plan, the space station may subsequently accommodate more foreign astronauts to take part in cooperative missions, and form closer synergy with equipment such as the Xuntian Space Telescope, further enhancing China's space station's capability as a comprehensive space platform.
