High-speed rail ticket booking apps unified in 3 days... Fares cut by 10% for 3 years

With the merger between Korea Railroad Corporation and SR having been finally approved, highspeed rail will be integrated and operated under the single name KTX starting this September. The Fair Trade Commission determined that there is a low likelihood that competition in the highspeed rail passenger transport market will be significantly restricted. After the merger, Korail has unveiled plans to lower fares on existing KTX routes by about 10%, bringing them in line with current SRT levels, and to increase seat supply and the number of train services over the next three years. It also plans to expand capacity by tens of thousands of seats per day on weekdays and weekends, and to operate doubleheading trains. The reservation apps will also be unified into a single 'Korail+' starting at 9:00 a.m. on the 3rd. Existing KorailTalk members will be automatically transferred, while SRT app users must go through the member transfer process on the website. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to complete the September integration after finalizing the subsequent approval procedures.
