Construction of a Net-Zero Carbon Transport Corridor on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway Has Been Launched
The Sichuan-Tibet Highway net-zero carbon transport corridor is being built at an accelerated pace, with a replenishment network being laid out along the Sichuan sections of G318/G317. By 2028, 8-10 stations and 400 plateau electric heavy-duty trucks will be put into operation, helping to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
The SichuanTibet Highway ZeroCarbon Transportation Corridor project has recently started construction. The first phase focuses on the Sichuan sections of National Highways G318 and G317, and plans to advance the layout of roadside stations and the deployment of plateau electric heavyduty trucks in stages.
The project promoters, Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group and CATL, announced the relevant arrangements at the World Power Battery Conference held in Yibin, Sichuan, on September 3. The project is planned to be advanced over a nineyear period, with a focus on solving issues such as the difficulty of replenishing energy for heavyduty trucks and the lack of supporting power grid infrastructure in highcold, highaltitude areas.
According to the introduction, the project plans to put 8 to 10 charging and batteryswapping stations and about 400 plateau electric heavyduty trucks into operation on the Sichuan section of the SichuanTibet Highway by 2028, and gradually achieve full coverage of the entire ChengduLhasa route by 2035. Relevant parties said that the new charging and batteryswapping technologies have already been verified in environments above 3,000 meters in altitude and in lowtemperature conditions.
The report noted that this project is expected to reduce exhaust emissions and fuel pollution. At the same time, by utilizing green energy such as hydropower and photovoltaics in plateau regions, it will lower transportation costs and improve traffic efficiency, while also boosting related industries and employment along the route.
