Strengthening Basic Research and Consolidating the Foundation for a Strong Science and Technology Nation
Basic research is accelerating in development, and original breakthroughs and strategic planning are becoming key to scientific and technological competition. Seize frontier opportunities, improve top-level design, and promote the coordinated upgrading of the innovation chain.
At the symposium on strengthening basic research, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that we should seize opportunities and respond to challenges, and strengthen basic research with greater intensity and more practical measures. The article points out that the current new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating, global scientific and technological competition is increasingly focusing on basic and frontier fields, and the importance of original and disruptive innovation continues to rise.
The article believes that China's basic research has entered a period of accelerated improvement in highquality development, but compared with the goal of becoming a world science and technology power, the number of original achievements and the capacity for original innovation still need to be strengthened. In the face of international competition and external uncertainty, basic research must continue to be placed in an important position, strategic layout and toplevel design must be improved, and systematic, forwardlooking, and coordinated efforts must be enhanced.
