The Ministry of Unification on Kim Yo-jong’s statement: “We have no intention of being hostile…we should meet and communicate”
DMZ landmine explosion: Let’s find a way to ease tensions and prevent recurrence through inter-Korean dialogue Stop the counterproductive back-and-forth and see the Ministry of Unification’s position and background for opening the door to dialogue
The Ministry of Unification said on the 2nd that, in response to Kim Yo Jong, Deputy Director of the Central Committee of the North Korean Workers' Party, claiming that the landmine explosion incident in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was a "selfstaged farce," the two sides should stop the futile backandforth and move toward dialogue.
In a press notice, the ministry said it has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of being hostile toward North Korea, and that rather than responses that fuel hatred and hostility, it is necessary to meet and communicate. It added that South and North Korea can find ways to prevent recurrence and ease tensions through dialogue.
Minister of Unification Chung Dongyoung also met with reporters that day and said that discussions should begin on confirming and finalizing the Military Demarcation Line, including issues related to the Armistice Line. The government has recently been repeatedly emphasizing the need to ease military tensions between South and North Korea.
