Beijing CPPCC offers proposals on “New Sports” to promote public health
Beijing healthy lifestyle advocacy: Use “New Sports” to integrate exercise into communities and schools Build a 15-minute health circle to help residents easily stick to exercise and improve their health
The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference recently held a special consultation meeting on promoting a healthy lifestyle. Committee members and members of democratic parties, based on their research, put forward suggestions on how to improve residents' health through sports activities that are closer to daily life.
The research team had previously visited sports parks, gymnasiums, schools, and other places, and exchanged views with fitness enthusiasts, parents, and medical staff. The survey showed that most respondents agreed that exercise is beneficial to both body and mind, but not many truly meet the required exercise duration and intensity, indicating that there is still a gap between "knowing exercise is important" and "persisting in exercise over the long term."
In response to this issue, the research team proposed the concept of "new sports," emphasizing embedding exercise into communities, schools, and public spaces, and using small venues, small teams, small events, and small competitions to lower the barrier to participation. Related suggestions include promoting shortduration fitness and health checkin mechanisms in communities, exploring integrated mental health and physical education courses in schools, opening exercise health clinics at community health service centers, and creating a more convenient "15minute healthy and civilized living circle."
