People Power Party endorses party line on abolishing early voting and reorganizing the NEC
People Power Party election law amendment bill, pushing to abolish early voting and introduce manual vote counting Check out the key summary of measures to strengthen fairness and trust, and follow the direction of the National Assembly debate
The People Power Party decided at a general meeting of its lawmakers on the 17th to adopt as a party platform a revision to the election law that would abolish early voting, increase the size of standing election management commissioners, and exclude judges from the chairmanship of the National Election Commission.
The proposal also includes printing ballots in advance at 100% of the number of eligible voters and conducting a simultaneous manual count at polling stations on election day. It also calls for tallying the voting results in real time and checking the entire voting process so that an automatic recount is conducted if the result discrepancy exceeds 0.5 percentage points.
In addition, it includes a plan to strengthen the National Election Commission and local election commissions into a standing system, while keeping the heads of city, county, and district election commissions nonstanding as they are now. The People Power Party said the measures are intended to improve the fairness and trustworthiness of election procedures, and plans to reorganize the details after discussions by the National Assembly standing committee.
