President Lee emphasizes procedure and persuasion over flashy reform
Lee Jae-myung's remarks on reform: emphasizes expanding welfare while rebutting criticism at Cabinet meeting See why social change is driven through procedure and persuasion
President Lee Jaemyung stated his position on criticism surrounding reform at a Cabinet meeting. In response to the criticism that the government is focusing only on growth and the economy while neglecting reform and welfare, he explained that welfare policies are being expanded as planned.
President Lee said that reform inevitably faces resistance because it means breaking down entrenched interests and creating a new order. He added that methods such as raising one's voice or pushing ahead forcefully are actually less likely to produce results, emphasizing that it is important to proceed by following proper procedures and persuading others.
He also compared the method of reform to an injection, adding that just as one soothes the other person and reduces the pain, social change must also be carried out step by step based on empathy and legitimacy.
