The eastern Pearl River Basin will see heavy rainfall, and some medium and small rivers may experience floods exceeding warning levels

According to a report from Guangzhou by China News Service on July 23, affected by the soontoform Typhoon No. 12 of this year, "Hongxia," a period of heavy rainfall will hit the eastern part of the Pearl River Basin from July 25 to 27. The accumulated rainfall in eastern Guangdong, western Fujian, and other areas is expected to reach 100 to 230 millimeters, with localized amounts possibly exceeding 300 millimeters. Water levels in the East River and rivers along the coast of eastern Guangdong will rise significantly. The report cited consultation information from the Pearl River Water Resources Commission, saying that numbered flooding may occur in the Han River, and that small and mediumsized rivers, flash floods, and urban waterlogging within the area affected by the heavy rainfall face relatively high risks. Relevant departments have already held special consultations on the typhoon's development trend, flood control situation, and reservoir safety during the flood season, and have made advance arrangements for prevention and response work. The consultation called on localities to properly carry out the dispatch of flood control projects in the basin, with a focus on prerelease and joint dispatch of key reservoirs such as those on the Han River and East River to ease downstream flood control pressure. At the same time, efforts should be strengthened to assess the risks of flash floods, urban waterlogging, and storm surges, and channels for drainage and flood discharge should be cleared in a timely manner to ensure the safe operation of cities.
