Reduced to 4 Pre-Candidates for SNU President
SNU presidential election narrowed to 4 pre-candidates Amid President Yoo Hong-lim's elimination, possible failure to secure a second term for the first time in 52 years, schedule confirmed
Four preliminary candidates have been selected in the election for the 29th president of Seoul National University. On the 9th, the SNU Presidential Recommendation Committee held presentation sessions for the 12 candidates who had entered the race, then narrowed the field to preliminary candidates: Lee Jaeyoung, professor in the College of Humanities; Kim Hyunchul, professor in the Graduate School of International Studies; Choi Haecheon, professor in the College of Engineering; and Kang Joonho, professor in the College of Education.
In this election, current President Yoo Honglim, who sought a second term, did not make it onto the list of preliminary candidates. This is the first time in 52 years that a second term for the SNU president has not been achieved, since former President Han Simseok, who served as the 11th and 12th presidents from 1970 to 1975.
The Presidential Recommendation Committee will hold open presentation sessions on the 17th and 22nd, and on October 7 it plans to reduce the number of candidates to three through a vote by the policy evaluation panel before recommending them to the board of trustees. The final president will begin their term in February next year after being proposed by the Minister of Education and appointed by the President.
