On July 17, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met in Shanghai with Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, who was in China to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
Wang Yi said that China and Russia, as comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, have always maintained mutual understanding and support in international and regional affairs. The Chinese side welcomes Russia’s accession to the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and hopes that both sides will take this conference as an opportunity to promote the development of artificial intelligence in a healthier, safer, and more orderly direction, while also strengthening capacity building among Global South countries.
Wang Yi also said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, ChinaRussia relations have maintained steady development. Both sides should continue to implement the important common understandings of the two heads of state, deepen highlevel exchanges and practical cooperation, and promote the steady forward development of bilateral relations.
Oreshkin, on behalf of the Russian side, congratulated the conference on its successful convening and said that Russia appreciates the Chinese side’s proposals regarding the development of artificial intelligence, is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly promote the building of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, and continue to strengthen bilateral and multilateral coordination.
