Zhou Hong, former chief executive of Hong Konglisted Wanlong Holdings Group, was convicted of fraud and sentenced by the Hong Kong High Court on September 14 to 10 years and 8 months in prison. He was also ordered to compensate the company HK$51.57 million and banned from serving as a company director or holding similar positions for 15 years. Court documents showed that between 2020 and 2021, Zhou Hong abused his position to fabricate procurement transactions for beauty products, arranging for three suppliers to issue 16 company checks, through which he misappropriated a total of HK$60.17 million. The funds were not used for procurement; instead, they were funneled through intermediaries to purchase 11 luxury watches for his personal use, and the company ultimately received no goods. The judge noted that this case was a typical example of embezzlement by a person in a position of trust, involving a large sum of money, a long time span, and damage to the reputation of the listed company and market confidence. After considering that the defendant had no prior convictions and multiple plea letters, the court ultimately handed down the above sentence.
