China's National Health Commission says using “plasma exchange” for anti-aging is illegal and non-compliant

Risk warning on plasma exchange and ozone therapy: healthy people should not use them for anti-aging or wellness conditioning Beware of medical marketing that exaggerates efficacy, stay away from non-compliant projects, and protect your health and property safety

China's National Health Commission held a press conference in Beijing on September 7, stating that using "plasma exchange" and "ozone therapy" on healthy people for "antiaging" and "subhealth conditioning" is illegal and noncompliant. The National Health Commission said that it has recently found that a small number of medical institutions have been carrying out related technologies beyond their approved indications and exaggerating their effectiveness, packaging them as antiaging methods that can "purify the blood," which may pose risks to public health and property safety. The Commission also explained that "plasma exchange" is mainly used for the treatment of certain critically ill conditions, while "ozone therapy" is mainly used for pain treatment and as an adjunctive treatment for some inflammations. Neither is a preventive health care service intended for healthy people. The authorities reminded the public to view related medical technologies rationally and not to undergo unnecessary medical procedures.
