Broker Yang, apologizes over suspicions of boasting about ties with politicians and making requests, while denying the allegations
We examine the key issues in the Kim Seung-won petition controversy and Mr. Yang's apology stance From allegations of bribery to the convertible bond controversy, take a look at the issues in the trial
Broker Yang, who is on trial on charges of having asked thencandidate for Justice Minister Kim Seungwon to approve a plan for a COVID19 treatment clinical trial, apologized for causing controversy with his rash remarks.
In a statement on the 17th, Yang's side said that remarks apparently boasting of his past ties with politicians had put a burden on those involved, and that he was also sorry to the public. However, regarding the core allegations, including charges of promising to provide a bribe, it said there were parts that differed from the facts and that it was disputing them in court.
Yang's side argued that he had only asked Kim to pay attention to the review related to the clinical trial and had not requested any illegal favor. It also denied all allegations, including the promise to provide 5 million won in sponsorship funds, suspicions of quid pro quo involving Genencell and Gusta convertible bond transactions, and controversy over his past experience running entertainment establishments.
