Choi Jae-sung fully denies allegations of lobbying over the COVID-19 new drug clinical trial, summarizing the Genencell controversy Check the key points of the Han Dong-hoon and Kim Seung-won dispute and confirm the facts and issues
Choi Jaesung, former senior presidential secretary for political affairs of the Democratic Party of Korea, fully denied on the 7th allegations that he lobbied for approval of a clinical trial for a new COVID19 drug involving him. Former Senior Secretary Choi expressed displeasure, saying National Assembly member Han Donghoon, who is unaffiliated with any party, brought him into the case by raising related allegations.
Former Senior Secretary Choi stated that he had never been involved in the approval process at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, nor had he asked Kim Seungwon, the nominee for Minister of Justice, for a favor. He also explained that he did not know Kim and had never spoken with him or met him in person.
This controversy arose after Assembly member Han released text messages and recordings related to allegations that Kim and Genencell sought improper favors for approval of a clinical trial for a COVID19 treatment. Han claimed that some politicians were aware of the broker's profit structure, but former Senior Secretary Choi and Assembly member Song Younggil pushed back, saying he was selectively releasing materials and damaging their reputations.
