Professor Kang Hyung-cheol of Sookmyung Women's University Appointed as New Chair of the Broadcasting Culture Promotion Association

The Foundation for Broadcast Culture, the largest shareholder of MBC, has elected Professor Kang Hyungchul of Sookmyung Women's University's Department of Media as its new chairperson. The foundation said on the 4th that it elected Professor Kang as chairperson through a vote at an extraordinary board meeting. Chairperson Kang, who is newly appointed, moved into academia after working as a reporter for Yonhap News and YTN. He has served as president of the Korean Association for Broadcasting Studies, a KBS director, and MBC's viewers' committee chair. He is also currently serving as chair of the readers' committee at the Kyunghyang Shinmun. Under the Foundation for Broadcast Culture Act, he will oversee the management and supervision of MBC as well as the promotion of broadcast culture. At the meeting that day, the board also organized the procedure for selecting MBC's next president, and Chairperson Kang said that appointing a president is the most urgent task.
