Prime Minister Kim delivers a message of democracy at the 39th anniversary ceremony of the June 10 Democratic Uprising

Prime Minister Kim Minseok, at the ceremony commemorating the 39th anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising held on the 10th at the Democracy Movement Memorial Hall in Yongsangu, Seoul, reflected on the meaning of democracy and emphasized national sovereignty and democracy in everyday life. Prime Minister Kim assessed that the uprising of June 10, 1987, was a victory of the people against military dictatorship and an important turning point in South Korea's democracy. He also referred to the recent attempt at an illegal emergency martial law and the citizens' resistance against it, saying that democracy is a precious asset that everyone must protect together. He said that the former Namyeongdong AntiCommunist Investigations Office, the venue of the event, is a place linked to the torture death of martyr Park Jongcheol, and stated that the government would restore the site to its original form to preserve the history of state violence. On the same day, President Lee Jaemyung also mentioned the role of citizens who defended democracy in a post on SNS and promised state affairs that serve the will of the people.
