Military Protection Zones Lifted and Eased in Pyeongtaek, Goyang, and Other Areas

The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 21st that it will lift or ease restrictions on military facility protection zones by roughly tenfold. This adjustment will apply across several areas, including Pyeongtaek and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province, Yongsan in Seoul, and Goseong and Sokcho in Gangwon Province. Areas subject to lifting include the Godeok Internationalization Planning District, Goyang Techno Valley and public housing sites, and the vicinity of Yongsan Children's Garden. Height restriction zones in parts of Goseong and Sokcho, Gangwon Province, will also be lifted, and some flight safety zones in Mapo and Eunpyeong in Seoul, as well as in Goyang and Sejong, will also be removed. The Ministry of National Defense explained that this measure is expected to make regional development, such as road and infrastructure construction and new or expanded building construction, easier. Some areas will be eased from controlled protection zones to restricted protection zones, and the changes will take effect after being officially announced in the government gazette on the 22nd.
