A Taiwanese elder sister and a crouch-walking doctor formed a bond during the wheat harvest in Henan

As the wheat harvest in Suixian County, Shangqiu City, Henan, was nearing its end, it welcomed a meeting that spanned the Taiwan Strait. Thirtyeightyearold Li Chuangye could only move by squatting because of an illness in childhood. Today, he runs a 24hour clinic in the rural area of Kashgar, Xinjiang, providing free treatment to people with disabilities and offering lowcost and subsidized services to patients in need. Lin Youxin, from Taichung City, Taiwan, was moved by Li Chuangye’s experience and acts of kindness. She got in touch with him through social media and then rushed to his hometown in Henan to help harvest wheat. She stayed at the Li family’s home for several days and became familiar with the local family and neighbors. She brought Taiwanese specialties such as sorghum liquor and pineapple cakes, and also sat around the dining table with Li Chuangye to exchange experiences in medical practice and ideas about public welfare. Li Chuangye said he was very happy to be able to influence others through his medical work, and he also thanked this friend, whom everyone called the “Taiwanese big sister,” for bringing warmth. Lin Youxin said that this trip was to pay tribute to Li Chuangye and to do her best to help. As the wheat harvest came to an end, the two of them returned to Xinjiang and Taiwan respectively, and agreed to meet again in Henan afterward.
