Government delivers response to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Coupang report

The government has conveyed its official rebuttal position to the U.S. side regarding the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's report related to Coupang. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 24th that the Korean Embassy in the United States sent a detailed position paper to the Judiciary Committee the previous day, correcting factual errors in the report and explaining the government's position.
In the position paper, the government explained Korea's regulatory legislation and enforcement principles, the nondiscriminatory nature of digital regulations, the facts surrounding the Coupang personal information leak case, and the validity of the Personal Information Protection Commission's measures. It also emphasized that the multiagency investigation into Coupang and measures such as the National Assembly hearing were lawful.
Earlier, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee released a report claiming that Coupang was receiving discriminatory and hostile regulations in Korea, and the White House also made similar claims. The government expressed regret, saying the report was based on unverified claims, and requested corrections to inaccurate parts and additions of omitted information.
