Temporary Easing of the Blockade Protest at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium Ahead of the Asian Games

Removal of items as the blockade at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium is lifted, a turning point in the 95-day conflict Take a quick look at the Asian Games preparations and the remaining election document issue

On the 8th, organizations under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee entered the handball arena at Olympic Park in Songpagu, Seoul, and removed office supplies. This is the site where a blockade protest had continued for 95 days following the shortage of ballots in the June 3 local elections. This entry involved 12 organizations, including the Korea Handball Association, Korea Fencing Association, and Korean Alpine Federation, and police and election commission officials accompanied them to the scene. The police deployed more than 1,800 personnel, including riot police, dialogue police, and detectives, to secure the entrances and control the site. The removal of items was completed in about 70 minutes, and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee explained that it had first secured the equipment and documents needed ahead of the Asian Games. However, electionrelated documents such as the voter register still remain inside the arena, so the blockade protest is likely to continue.
