The Jingdezhen Handcrafted Porcelain Industry Heritage’s World Heritage Nomination Showcases Full-Industry-Chain Conservation Experience

At the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Industry Heritage” nominated by China was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 25. This heritage covers multiple stages, including raw materials, fuel, porcelain production, transportation, and social organization, concentratingly reflecting Jingdezhen’s complete industrial system as a thousandyear porcelain capital, and also demonstrating China’s holistic approach to World Heritage nomination. The report pointed out that Jingdezhen’s heritage sites are widely distributed, complex in type, and involve multiple ownership and protection coordination issues. China has organized the cooperation of multiple archaeological units and adopted methods such as backfilling, protective shelters, and interactive signage in the protection, display, and interpretation of earth relic sites, enhancing public understanding while ensuring the safety of cultural relics. Taking the Houtian Ancient Porcelain Kiln Site as an example, the local area has adopted designs such as transparent exhibition halls, interactive installation signage, and rainwater and flood ecological management, combining the site environment, natural landscape, and historical information to present the appearance of the ancient porcelain industry cluster to the public more intuitively. The porcelain industry production center in the town area integrates ancient kiln sites, workshops, streets, alleys, and modern urban life, reflecting a practical path in which heritage protection and urban renewal proceed in parallel.
