The Ministry of Water Resources has recently deployed work on flood defense in response to an upcoming period of relatively heavy rainfall in Northwest China, with a focus on guiding places such as Shanxi and Shaanxi to strengthen prevention and preparedness. Relevant departments said that from July 14 to 17, the eastern part of Northwest China will see rainfall mainly consisting of moderate to heavy rain, and some areas in central Shaanxi and central and southern Shanxi may experience torrential rain, with extremely heavy rain in localized areas.
According to the forecast, the Weihe, Fenhe, and Qinhe rivers, tributaries in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, may see rising water levels, and some small and mediumsized rivers also face a risk of flooding exceeding warning levels. This round of rainfall is relatively intense, and the pressure on reservoirs, check dams, small and mediumsized rivers, and flash flood disaster prevention is high.
The Ministry of Water Resources requires localities to strengthen monitoring, forecasting, and early warning, and to release information promptly; conduct a comprehensive inspection of small and mediumsized reservoirs and hazardous reservoirs with defects within the areas of heavy rainfall, and implement measures to prevent overtopping and dam failures; strengthen inspection and watch duty for check dams;做好 flood prevention for small and mediumsized rivers and prepare for public evacuation; and at the same time fully implement flash flood warning response and personnel evacuation arrangements, so as to minimize the possible impact of rainfall and ensure the safety of people.
