According to the Supreme People's Court, on September 7, the Intermediate People's Court of Weifang, Shandong Province, publicly pronounced at first instance on the bribery case of Wang Jianjun, former member of the Party Committee and vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), sentencing him to life imprisonment, depriving him of political rights for life, and confiscating all of his personal property.
The court found that, from the first half of 2005 to September 2019, Wang Jianjun took advantage of his positions at the CSRC's Yunnan Regulatory Bureau, General Office, and Market Regulation Department, among others, to provide assistance to relevant organizations and individuals in matters such as company listings, financing, and business contracting, and illegally accepted property totaling more than 93.4 million yuan.
The court held that his conduct constituted the crime of bribery, involving an especially large amount, and caused especially serious losses to the interests of the state and the people. In view of the fact that after being taken into custody he truthfully confessed, proactively disclosed some facts that had not yet been ascertained, and pleaded guilty and showed repentance, and that part of the illicit money and property had been recovered, he was given a lighter punishment in accordance with the law. The case was heard on June 10 this year, and Wang Jianjun stated in court that he pleaded guilty and showed remorse.
