Special Prosecutor confirms signs of illegal martial law preparations within the military... Watch the key issues and repercussions, from the Kim Geon-hee allegations investigation to disciplinary action against the special investigator
The Second Special Prosecutor's Team for Comprehensive Investigation said it had confirmed signs that the military had been preparing an unlawful martial law from the first half of 2024. The special prosecutor explained that it had secured related clues during the investigation of counterintelligence command officials.
These signs could affect the existing court judgment regarding the timing of former President Yoon Sukyeol's martial law plan. Previously, as judgments about the timing of the martial law conspiracy differed at each stage of the investigation, there is speculation that the new evidence could serve as a basis for the appellate court's decision.
The special prosecutor also requested the appearance of four prosecutors who were involved in the investigation at the time regarding allegations that the investigation into First Lady Kim Keonhee's stock manipulation suspicions related to Deutsche Motors was covered up. In addition, it said it had imposed a onemonth pay cut disciplinary action on the special investigator who posted internal materials on social networking service (SNS).
