Kim Yong-beom: “U.S. big tech prioritizes stable memory supply over fab location”

Kim Yongbeom, the presidential chief of staff for policy at the Blue House, said that U.S. big tech companies care more about receiving a stable supply of memory chips when needed than about whether semiconductor factories are located in Korea or the United States. At a press briefing for foreign media on the 24th, Kim explained that longterm memory chip contracts between Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix could be announced in conjunction with President Lee Jaemyung's visit to San Francisco. He added that investment deals related to artificial intelligence data centers could also be announced. He also drew a line regarding the U.S. Commerce Secretary's remarks, saying there had been no official request at the government level, and stated that South Korea's plan to expand semiconductor production is intended to respond to U.S. demand. The president is reported to emphasize South Korea's AI policy vision and semiconductor supply capacity at the San Francisco AI Summit.
