The People Power Party Ethics Committee begins disciplinary procedures against lawmakers Cho Kyung-tae, Kwon Young-jin, and Jin Jong-oh

The People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee announced on the 27th that it had begun disciplinary procedures against lawmakers Jo Kyungtae, Kwon Youngjin, and Jin Jongoh. The Ethics Committee did not separately explain the specific reasons, but all three lawmakers are classified as part of the party's nonmainstream faction. Lawmaker Jo Kyungtae had previously been referred for urging lawmakers from other parties to cause the defeat of People Power Party Deputy Speaker Park Deokheum in the National Assembly. Lawmaker Kwon Youngjin became subject to discipline after grabbing the collar of floor leader Jang Jeongsik while protesting the issue of assignment to standing committees in the National Assembly. Lawmaker Jin Jongoh was mentioned as having supported thenindependent candidate Han Donghoon in the Busan Bukgap byelection as a disciplinary reason. However, there was also pushback within the Ethics Committee, with concerns that this move could be seen as a loyalty contest toward the party leader. Some Ethics Committee members argued that the independent Ethics Committee should not be used for political purposes, and observers both inside and outside the party say the disciplinary process could further intensify internal conflict within the People Power Party.
