Academician Chen Liquan says the vision of "Electric China" is gradually becoming a reality

Electric China: The electrification of transportation, the intelligence of equipment, and the low-carbonization of energy are accelerating into practice High-performance batteries are key, and the prospects of lithium batteries, solid-state batteries, and sodium batteries are worth watching

Chen Liquan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and winner of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, said at the 18th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on July 10 that the vision of an "Electrified China," characterized by the electrification of transportation, intelligentization of equipment, and lowcarbonization of energy, is gradually becoming a reality. He explained that transportation electrification covers electric vehicles, electric trains, electric ships, and electric aircraft; lowcarbon energy includes newenergy power generation and largescale energy storage; and equipment intelligentization is reflected in areas such as smart cities, smart industry, smart agriculture, and lowenergyconsumption electricity use. Chen Liquan pointed out that highperformance batteries are key to realizing this vision. Lithium batteries need to continue increasing energy density while maintaining safety, and solidstate batteries are expected to combine high energy density with safety; meanwhile, sodium batteries can serve as an important complement to lithium batteries. Since 2004, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has continuously carried out consultative research around areas such as electric vehicles, electric aviation, and the scaling up of energy storage, promoting the formation of the strategic vision of "Electrified China."
