Korea Gas Corporation has nominated former Democratic Party lawmaker Hong Euirak as its new president candidate. The corporation announced through a disclosure on the 7th that it would place the appointment proposal on the agenda and make a decision at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on the 23rd. If approved at the shareholders' meeting, former lawmaker Hong will take on the position of president for a threeyear term after a proposal from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and an appointment by the President. Former lawmaker Hong served as a member of the 19th and 20th National Assembly and as the deputy mayor for economic affairs of Daegu Metropolitan City, and in 2021 he served as chairman of the Southern Region Economic Measures Committee in the campaign for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung. This appointment comes as the procedure to select a new president has continued since the expiration of former President Choi Yeonhye's term in December last year. In the earlier recruitment process, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy judged all five final candidates to be unqualified, leading to a new round of applications.
