Nanjing and Istanbul Hold Twin-City Civilizational Dialogue Event
Nanjing-Istanbul Dialogue: City Literature and Heritage Protection Join Hands for Mutual Learning Among Civilizations See how the two ancient cities promote exchanges between China and Turkey through digital cultural heritage and creative cooperation
On July 2 local time, the “Meet·See” — China Nanjing Dialogue with Istanbul event was held in Türkiye. The event coincided with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Türkiye. Experts and scholars from the cultural departments of the two governments, UNESCO, and the fields of cultural heritage and literature took part in the exchange, discussing urban literature, heritage conservation, and mutual learning among civilizations.
A relevant official from UNESCO said in a speech that Nanjing and Istanbul, as the “World Literature City” and the “World Design City” respectively, demonstrate through this city linkage the integration of historical and cultural preservation with contemporary urban development, while also providing a reference for revitalizing heritage in ancient cities.
The event also featured a cultural experience exhibition, which presented the development trajectories of the two cities from history to the present through digital reconstruction, architectural interpretation, and contemporary creation. The report noted that in recent years Nanjing and Istanbul have already carried out practical cooperation in areas such as ChinaEurope freight trains, crossborder ecommerce, new energy industries, and university cooperation. This dialogue also extends exchanges into the fields of cultural heritage and digital museums, further promoting communication between the two sides at the humanistic level.
