Trump Dismisses Calls to Slow Down AI, Emphasizes Competition with China
Trump opposes AI regulation, saying the U.S. must maintain its lead in the AI race over China Check out the key issue now, from Democratic regulatory pressure to the White House's stance
U.S. President Donald Trump opposed claims that the pace of artificial intelligence (AI) development should be slowed, saying that the United States must preserve its competitive edge while it is ahead of China.
President Trump, speaking to reporters during a visit to Ireland on the 13th (local time), expressed a negative stance toward calls for stronger AI regulation or a slowdown. White House aides also defended the same position, saying China is unlikely to join an international consensus.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is pressing to speed up discussions on AI safeguards and regulation. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Congress should take immediate action, and Democrats appear to be making AI regulation a key issue ahead of the November midterm elections.
