President Lee Jaemyung met with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jaeyong at the Blue House on the 25th to discuss regional semiconductor investment plans. It was reported that the creation of a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region was one of the main agenda items at the meeting. The president had previously also met with SK Group Chairman Chey Taewon, showing an ongoing publicprivate consultation linked to the government's strategy for balanced national development. In the industry, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to consider investments related to semiconductors and AI industry ecosystems in the Honam and Chungcheong regions. The government is promoting both a semiconductor belt in the southern region and balanced regional development, and the Special Semiconductor Act, scheduled to take effect in August, is also expected to include related support measures and special provisions for permits and approvals. The government said that once future investment plans are finalized, it intends to arrange a session where companies and ministries will jointly explain them.
